Fyans DNA Project
The History of Fyans DNA study.
Our first blood samples were taken in July 2001 for the Sorenson DNA study. They
can be found at http://smgf.org One male
Fyans and his son participated. We then had another male Fyans take a commercial
test so we would have loci numbers. Just within the last month, March 2004, the
Sorenson Study released it's first pedigree charts generated by thier study. We
entered the numbers for our third participant and up came a match with the two
who participated in 2001. This confirms that the smgf.org is working. We are now
looking for others to participate in the free test which can be received from
smgf.org and also to be tested with a private firm, Relative Genetics. We will
then be building a hallotype for the Fyans surname. As we expand the
participation, we will be able to decide if we are related to the different
branches of Fyans around the world. Even if results indicate that you are not
related, it may point you in research directions in the future. We encourage you
to contact us at this site for futher information and also visit the sites for
smgf.org and Relative Genetics. Depending on which branch you belong to, we may
be able to help with funds for the test with Relative Genetics. This is an
exciting prospect for Genealogists. If you already have DNA results, please let
